Why do I care so much about form?  For it's application to resistance training, joint angles influence muscle activation, along with other various reasons.  Most people know that since the biceps brachii is biarticulate, meaning it crosses two joints, it has more than one action.  These are primarily elbow flexion, and assisting in shoulder flexion and also supination of the forearm.  However, for me, the answer is a little more personal and goes back to the reason I got into health and fitness in the first place.

What seems to be a different lifetime ago, I was a competitive rower.  At the pinnacle of my rowing career I received a gold medal in the men's pair at the US Rowing Junior National Championships in Syracuse, New York.  One week later I was in the Men's 8+ that placed second at the Royal Canadian Henley in St. Catherine's, Canada.  Shortly after these accomplishments, I injured my back bringing my rowing career sputtering to a halt.  At that point I was 16 years old with a ruptured disc.  I finished off my junior year of high school rowing, only with the aid of prednisone and two epidural cortisone injections. After a long battle with chronic pain, copious amounts of vicodin, and finally nucleoplasty and a microdiscectomy, I was restored to "normal" function.

It is said that we learn the most from our own experiences, and injuries are no exception. I have learned tremendous amounts about lower back injuries, treatment, and prevention. From this experience, my interest has spawned into other injuries resulting from training, poor posture, and other life challenges.
